Festival News, ImDb, & DVDs

Even though graduation season has passed, Pomp and Circumstances is beginning to make its way in the world.  We're currently waiting to hear from five film festivals to which it has been submitted - festivals in Utah, Indiana, Oklahoma, Florida, and even Ontario, Canada!  These are prime opportunities to get the film and its actors seen by industry professionals.  Any news we hear, we'll post on the site.

The film also now has an IMDb page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1954752/   If you've seen the film, log in and rate it!  Write a review, be the first to comment, etc, etc...   (And if you look closely, I'm sure you could find a goof or two to add to the trivia page!)

The other news is that Pomp and Circumstances is now available on DVD for $5 or $6 if you would like it shipped to you.  The funds from DVD sales go right back into the film project to pay for festival entry fees and the costs of creating and shipping DVDs to those festivals, all of which can get quite expensive.  Also, I am tithing 10% of all funds generated by this project, because I think that's the right thing to do!   Just email me if you would like to purchase a copy: DMT4PDL@aol.com.

See before you buy:

Wearing Pajamas to Work

What goes better with kidnapping than a slice of cake? Breaking and entering paired with baking and eating?(Complaints about needless alliteration may be directed to the editor.)

Check out photos from the filming of the 'kidnapping' scene!

What being woken up in the middle of the night by your best friends feels like, as represented by a Dutch angle...

Wright: "Shhh! You'll wake her up"

Hal: "Get in for a picture!"

Where did the actors go?

Wright: "I was going for more of a Mission Impossible look, but somebody had to break protocol!"

Eating the cake that was used in a scene earlier that day!

See how good we are at hiding the Sprite logo?

Meet the Cast - Part 2

Allow us to introduce you to a few more of the castmembers...

Elise Miller
Sadie

Elise Miller is a freshman at Columbus State University. She is an intended Theatre Performance major with Teacher Certification. Elise has been continually involved in the Theatre Program at Douglass County High School. She is also a Governor's Honors Program Theatre graduate. This is her first film experience, and she has enjoyed the learning curve and all the great friends she has made during the process.

Jarred Wiehe
The Freshman

Hi, I'm Jarred Wiehe, an oh-so-close-to-graduating senior, and I play a so-not-caring-about-graduation freshman. I study English Lit, and I quite fancy Restoration and early 18th Century literature. I have performed a bit, most recently in Oxford, England - not saying that I'm an international celebrity, but I'm kind of an international celebrity of stage (and now) screen. Enjoy the flick!

Kellan McQueen
Ruby

Kellan McQueen is a junior pursuing a BA in Theatre at Columbus State University. This is the first film that she has participated in, and she was thrilled to have been a part of it. She believes it is always an amazing sight to be a part of what goes on behind the scenes as well as on the screen. This was definitely a lesson learned as she pursues a career in stand-up, television, and sketch comedy.

DB Woolbright
Grant

DB Woolbright is a native of Columbus, Georgia, and spent 13 years studying at the Springer Theatre Academy. He is a freshman at Columbus State University studying Theatre Performance. DB has been seen in Springer productions such as The Little Baby Snoogle Fleejer, Ragtime, Peter Pan, and Big River. He is in love with music and has played around the West Georgia area.

Meet the Cast - Part 1

Take a moment to get to know the talented cast of Pomp and Circumstances.

Nanisha Martinez
Renee

I am a freshman, pursuing a BFA in Theatre Performance at Columbus State University. This is the first film I have ever been a part of, and I am very excited to be working with such a talented director and the wonderful cast! I can't wait for the premiere!

Amanda Jayne
Christi

Hi! I am a Theatre Education major at Columbus State University with a passion for beauty and life. Acting is something I have always been drawn to, but what you may not know is that I also have a habit of hiding behind the lens snapping photos. I plan to pursue a career in the arts and am excited to see where that brings me.

Joey
Davila

The Freshman

Joey Davila is a Theatre and Marketing major at Columbus State University. His theatrical endeavors vary from acting, to directing, to playwrighting, to leading his own improvizational comedy troupe based out of CSU. He hopes to graduate college and then pursue a career in acting, playwrighting, or sketch comedy in Atlanta or California.

Glue first, ask questions later

The crown jewel in Sadie's bad day is when her little brother turns her graduation robe into a "work of art." With no room in the budget to hire an actual 8-year-old to design the robe, the Pomp and Circumstances team decorates one using glitter, pasta, and molten liquid-hot glue.

First rule of costume construction: arm yourself.

The blank canvas, a graduation robe generously donated by Brooke Cosby.

Second rule of costume construction: don't burn yourself.

The design in progress... (the feathers, unfortunately, didn't make the cut).

Elton John, eat your heart out.

The nasty results of a collision between Chef Boyardee and Lady Gaga.

Who knew pasta went so well with patent leather?

Production Stills...Still what?

Here are some still shots from the shooting of a scene - a scene of conflict, love...and Alka Seltzer?

Garrett J. Gray and Kellan McQueen play Wright and Ruby - characters who have a very complicated relationship.

Ruby: "Your roommate has a hangover and can't take care of you, so I'm doing it!"

Wright: "Maybe it wasn't just the dairy that was making me sick!"

Do opposites attract? Will love conquer all? Is imitation cheese as good as the real thing? All will be revealed in Pomp and Circumstances!

Production Commences!

Take a look at some photos from the recent shoot of the diner scene!

Special thanks go to the staff of the Columbus State University Dining Services for allowing us to use the campus food court! Huge thanks also go to the extras who volunteered to be in this scene: Natasha Arora, Meghan Chatfield, Brooke Cosby, La'Sandra King, and Frederic O'Reilly.

The cast - Shea Barnett, Elise Miller, Kellan McQueen, Garrett J. Gray, and Samuel Gant - get cozy around the table while the crew sets up the shots. They don't have their prop food yet!

Director Danielle M. Thompson films the grand entrance of Renee, played by Nanisha Martinez.

The cast and extras wait patiently (and do homework) in between takes!

Extras Brooke Cosby and Meghan Chatfield having an actual conversation in between takes (rather than a pantomimed one during a take!)

Danielle focuses the camera to get a wide shot of the castmembers at the table. What a great mural in the background of the 'diner'!

Actor Nanisha Martinez in costume as the character Renee, Hal's smart and sexy girlfriend.

The actors and director share a laugh about prop food in between takes!

Pomp and Circumstances

The most important lessons you learn in school are the ones that don't get a letter grade...

In the comedy film Pomp and Circumstances, Sadie Lucas is having the worst day ever...no, like epically. She is supposed to graduate from college at 7pm tonight, but the hours leading up to the ceremony are her true final exam. Her best friends kidnap her early in the morning to take her to her favorite diner for a celebratory breakfast, but one friend has an allergic reaction and must be rushed to the emergency room. After that, Sadie and her best friend Melody drive back to Sadie's house, but have car trouble on the way. Then she discovers her boyfriend is cheating on her, that her prize-winning essay did not get sent to the publisher, and that her little brother turned her graduation robe into a "work of art." Each step of the way, her circle of true friends - who, by the way, have very little in common with each other - help her tackle the days trials and usher her into the next stage of her life's journey.

Pomp and Circumstances is the third film from writer/director Danielle Melissovas Thompson. Filmed entirely on location in Georgia, the film stars an ensemble cast: Shea Barnett, Daniel Blanda, Joey Davila, Donna B. Dooley, Ian T. Dooley, Samuel Gant, Garrett J. Gray, Nanisha Martinez, Elise Miller, Amanda Jayne, Kellan McQueen, Jarred Wiehe, Rachael Sarah Williams, and DB Woolbright.

The film is still in production and is set to release April 2011.
